HR Meets NASCAR!
What can HR Learn from the World’s Fastest Drivers?
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching lots of people have flowers and candy on their minds and rightfully so! However not all is chocolate and roses, at least not this Valentine’s Day…
The Daytona 500, The 52nd running of this great American race steeped in tradition and prestige, takes place Sunday, February 14th with the top 43 drivers taking center stage, and OrlandoJobs.com and GreatInsuranceJobs.com will be there hosting “HR Meets NASCAR” for over 240 HR professionals across the state of Florida.
So why HR at NASCAR? What could possibly be the connection and is there an opportunity for HR to bond with the very likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Mark Martin and take something back to the workplace?
If you really think about it, HR has quite a bit in common with NASCAR. With a race like the Daytona 500 you have big egos, hundreds of employees working at record pace to achieve a goal, that often times is never reached because of a crash, defective equipment or just poor judgment on a driver’s part. Does this sound familiar?
We have all experienced this type of frenetic pace at least once in the workplace during our career, and for some it’s an everyday occurrence; nonetheless it can be very stressful. It’s how we handle that stress; having to multi-task and multi-focus that brings the best to the forefront of an organization – a natural leader.
We see those leaders in races like the Daytona 500; Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin are perfect examples – so is there a secret to being a natural leader? What makes these NASCAR drivers push themselves to achieve perfection? Is it the glory of the win or the glory of the money? I have to believe it’s the respect garnered in the industry and the prestige of knowing you are of an elite group that has achieved success.
This coming Sunday, yes, Valentine’s Day, I’ll be attending HR Meets NASCAR with OrlandoJobs.com and GreatInsuranceJobs.com to try to answer some of those questions and find that common bond with HR and the fastest drivers in America!
Look for live tweets and blogging from @carolmacd and @JennyDeVaughn, in the Pit Road Patios using hash tag #D500HR to update you on the race, the events and of course that elite group of perfectionists!
